AMA Community Centre launched a new homework club in the Sawmill Creek vulnerable neighbourhood. Our goal is to provide this free after-school programming for academic, social recreation and emotional maturity supports.
An after-school homework club would provide the necessary safe space, tutoring, and support to inspire children to excel. The homework club includes support to complete assignments, reading/literacy activities, and games to promote learning.
This program will be for Grade 4 to Grade 8 children for the 2019-2020 school year. When we have more experience we intend to expand to include high school students into the program in the future.
When the youth arrive to the HW club they can interact with the tutors to receive academic support and mentoring. The program will also provide snacks to enable the youth to focus on their studies. Parents will be encouraged to follow along in their children’s progression.
At the end of the school year the management team of AMA along with the tutors will perform an evaluation to assess the milestones, accomplishments, areas of improvement for the HW club in order to run it again successfully for the following school year (2020-2021) and beyond.
